![]() The Moon basically follows the ecliptic, the same path traveled by the Sun and planets. The visibility of young (or old) crescents has much to do with the angle the Moon's path makes to the horizon. A few of these will be extremely challenging, others easier but just as remarkable to behold.Ī day-old crescent isn't too difficult to see and a worthy goal for the naked-eye observer. This December and in the coming months, we'll have several opportunities to catch youthful crescents at dusk or senior ones at dawn. Crater shadows took little bites out of the delicate lunar arc, adding to the exquisite view. ![]() The Moon was fine china, so fragile you might crack it with the slightest touch. That's a far cry from the record, but what a sight. When it comes to seeing a young lunar crescent, my personal best is a 21.5-hour-old Moon. Notice the shading towards the horns of the crescent caused by crater rim and mountain shadows "slicing out" segments of sunlight. A 24-hour-old Moon cuts a crisp figure at dusk on February 19, 2015. December and January offer several opportunities to see these exceptional slices in the sky. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone, and we certainly will not be back there on any future trip to New Orleans.A slender crescent Moon is a beautiful and inspiring sight. 7 miles from the French Quarter and it feels like you can be in any large Southern city. If you are there for the "feel" of New Orleans.wrong place. If you are there for the sports venues, it is convenient. I shouldn't have to call up for things that are supposed to be there every day. Everyone was very nice to talk to, the problem is THEY DON"T FOLLOW UP, and every day is a new adventure. In sum, someone is sleeping at housekeeping either management not paying attention, not instructing properly, or not following up to see if the staff is doing their job. If you stay here, you will get a lot of exercise walking. Futuristic, and it pretty much worked until about a large group of conference attendees all used the cards in quick succession. You check in, then you have to take escalators up to the third floor, then walk a good distance thru various bars to get to the elevator bank, which is card computer controlled. A piece of "beef" that was virtually impossible to cut with a knife. ![]() The banquet lunch food was probably the worst food I have ever experienced at a lunch, and I have been to hundreds of them. ![]() It stayed there for three full days before someone picked up the chocolate remains.with still a few nuts left as we were checking out. On the first day, we noticed someone had spilled a bunch of chocolate and nuts in the hall near our room. Hmmm.anyone think of rehanging the picture? Then there was the hall. It is directly in front of a large hung picture. The room has a wide screen TV on a dresser. On two days, after normal daytime service, we received ONE face towel for two people. Regular housekeeping at any hotel I stay at. No water of course, and they didn't replenish the body wash or shampoo until we complained after two days, then they left a bag at the door. Turndown service? You have to call, on two occasions they left towels at the door. They did offer to change the room after three days, but we were leaving the next day, so we said we will just leave the fan on. Still going strong when we left this morning. I then called, they do not answer, so I leave a message with the operator and said tell engineering you can hear the noise by standing next to the utility closet between my room and the next room, and it is even louder. So not wanting to have a crew in my room in the middle of the night, we just slept with the fan on all night. So call them anytime of the day or night. I play it for him, he says they have to hear it themselves, and since it is daytime, with all the street noise, it is not as discernible. I record it, call the front desk in the AM, and they send a very pleasant engineer. Then there is a buzzing noise in the middle of the night every two to three minutes. It took three calls over two days to get water bottles in the room. So we get to the room and there is NO water. So nice greeting, and they say you get free water despite it being marked $4, just use it and you won't be charged. Huge hotel next to Superdome with many large conferences, which is why we stayed there.
